Sarah McKay

McKay has over a decade of professional leadership experience as a passionate Executive Director for non-profit organizations, implementing strategic vision and developing sustainable diversified revenue streams to allow programs to have greater impact. She has served as Executive Director for Orange County NY Arts Council advocating for the area’s arts and artists on a regional, state, and federal level and successfully implementing programs to promote equitable access to the arts. Prior, she was Director of Hygienic Art Galleries (New London, CT) where she successfully fundraised for and managed the construction of New London’s first outdoor performance amphitheater. As a fundraising professional, she has tripled revenues through strong networks of relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, local and state government officials and sponsors.

Sarah has developed and produced dozens of regional and statewide events and collaborative programs in both NY and CT including festivals such as the New London Blues and Brews Festival, REAP Street Festival (Windsor), CT Family Festival, tri-state conferences such as Hudson Valley Creative Impact Conference, and countless performances and concerts throughout Hudson Valley NY and CT. She has curated statewide exhibits including the annual “Rough Around The Edges” exhibits hosted in alternative spaces, and the CT Annual Printmakers Invitational. Additionally, she is a co-founder of Rough Edges Art Productions and currently affiliated with Windsor Art Center and Spark Makerspace. In 2023, she was appointed by the Governor’s office to the Connecticut Arts Council.

She believes in the important role that nonprofits serve and understands the challenges many organizations face with maintaining mission, strategic focus, and capacity building while also working to diversify audiences and funding sources. She has first hand experience in managing these often competing needs and looks forward to collaborating with boards and staff to meet them together.

Outside of the office, Sarah enjoys travel, books, and live music. She can often be found attending community arts and cultural events, collecting house plants, or exploring outdoors with her dogs.

Areas of expertise: non-profit fundraising, strategic planning, grant writing, community engagement, project management, event production & coordination, capital campaign management, and institutional growth.
